There's
no doubt that for many companies fuel is often the major operating
cost. If your vehicle can return to base once or twice a week it
would be worthwhile installing your own tank, it is easy to acquire
tanks at little or no cost, and fuel is currently around 24p per
litre. This doesn't mean you have to refuel at base, you can refuel
at one of the hundreds of fuel stations located throughout the country,
less than half the price of other fuels. |

FLEETS
disposing of gas-powered vehicles are cashing in on what might be
a turning point for alternative fuels, as auction bidders seem to
be warming to liquefied petroleum gas. At a recent Vauxhall sale at BCA Brighouse, a dual-fuel 2000W Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 SRi saloon with 5,000 miles was sold for £11,000 - the CAP 'clean' figure for a petrol 2.0 SRi is £9,850. |

LPG fuel costs half as much as petrol, LPG cars can retail for about
£2,000 more than petrol cars.

Gordon Brown sent a clear environmental message to fleet operators looking at alternative fuels by further slashing duty rates on alternative fuels. The Chancellor took 6p a kilo off gaseous road fuels and announced a freeze of duty on such fuels until 2004. He also took a massive 20p a kilo off bio-diesel. More and more fleets have been examining the alternative fuels option as fuel prices have spiralled while duties on Liquid Petroleum Gas and Compressed Natural Gas have fallen in recent years. Association of Car Fleet Operators director Stewart Whyte welcomed the duty cuts. |
